Wistanswick Village Fete
The Wistanswick Fete this year was a triumph for the small group of organisers who saw off the bad weather and trying conditions to give the public an excellent of events and spectacle.
The fields drained well and allowed a larger than usual horse show and gymkhana to take place. The were good entries and fierce but friendly competition - one gymkhana class attracted no fewer than 14 horses.
The Dog Show also pulled in a greater entry and there was an amazing range of dogs on show all going through various paces.
Entries were up in the Garden and Produce competition and the assembled show was great and colourful spectacle for the many hundreds of visitors who came to the fete day on Saturday July 28th. (The senior competition was won by Councillor Roger Bliss)
The newly refurbished Institute Hall hosted a constant throng of people anxious to consume vast amounts of cake, sandwiches and tea and the barbeque did a roaring trade in non stop burgers, soft drinks and hot dogs all day.
Tuesday's Chocolate fountains flowed, traders traded, bric-a-brac changed hands, tombolas were played, the Grand Draw was sold out, children's games were on hand as were skittles, a bouncy castle, coconut shy and a marvellous display of vehicles from the South Chesire MG owners club with a splendid PA system linking it all together.
All together the fete gave a wonderfully dry and sunny day out for many after the ghastly, damp and depressing weather of the previous five weeks. After all expenses are paid it is hoped that the day's event will have raised a little over £2000 towards the runnung expenses and continued refurbishment of the Institute Hall in Wistanswick.
The organisers would like to thank the many who gave up some time and energy during the day and to the many who just came along and clearly enjoyed themselves.
Book next year's date now - The 25th July 2009!!
